young-bibs-swimmersOn 29 and 30 October, the SAS/ISB Swim Invitational 2016 was held in Shanghai. This fun and competitive event was a chance for students to bond with 800 swimmers from 39 international schools in China. Phoebe Geng, Lily He, Alice Wu, Michelle Chen, Martina Chai, Jaden Li and Jerry Xu, were the seven students of Beanstalk International Bilingual School (BIBS) who participated in the competition and represented the school impeccably.

BIBS athlete Lily He, an eight-year-old, won a gold medal in freestyle, a silver medal in backstroke and a bronze medal in butterfly stroke from all her 25-meter races. Phoebe Geng, who turned just nine years old before the meet, had to compete with elder entrants who were much taller in the same age group. Yet she overcame the height challenge and managed to beat all others, winning first place in her group in the breaststroke race. Big applause also goes to Alice Wu, who achieved two first places in her freestyle and backstroke races! Michelle Chen won first place in the 11-12 age group. Phoebe Geng, Lily He, Alice Wu and Martina Chai also worked together as a great team to beat all others in the 8-and-under 100-medley relay to rank 3rd in all groups and 1st in their own group. Their outstanding performance and team spirit garnered huge attention at the event.

For Martina Chai, Jaden Li and Jerry Xu, it was their very first time participating in such a national level and highly competitive meet. But they trained hard, embraced the challenge and became the best they could be at this event. An excellent performance!

Congratulations to all these young swimmers! The BIBS community is so proud of their accomplishments and everyone is looking forward to hearing more good news from them in the future!
