YK Pao School is moving to a newly constructed primary campus on Wuding Road, near Jing’an Temple in August. Among many new educational facilities and sustainable features, the campus will have a new, purpose-built swimming pool, offering the opportunity to expand the School’s swimming program. ykp-swim-s

As part of the new program, all students will swim at least once a week as part of PE, ensuring all primary school students become more than competent swimmers. The pool will open before school, offering students an ‘early bird swim’. Later it will be used in PE lessons, during lunchtime and after school by the swimming teams. The school team is coached by the former goalkeeper of the National Chinese Women’s Water Polo Team.

Head of PE, Michael Young, explained the importance of swimming in the curriculum as “a lifelong skill that we can use long after the education phase of our lives. Swimming without doubt is one of the most complete forms of physical activity”. The School swimming team currently has 25 members and regularly competes with other international schools.
