Recently, YK Pao School handed over a cheque for 80,000 RMB to the charity Heifer International, the culmination of its ‘Read to Feed’ fundraising activity. From 13th February until 9th March, students were sponsored to read as many books as possible to raise money for the charity, which provides livestock and agricultural training to impoverished communities in rural China. This is the second year that YK Pao School has supported Heifer in this way, and the impressive total raised this year is over double the amount raised last year. Representatives from Heifer were delighted to accept the cheque at a special assembly.

The assembly was held in an auditorium full of vampires, superheroes, fairytale creatures and wizards, as students dressed up to mark the end of Book Week. Tying into the theme of Read to Feed, Book Week’s aim is to cultivate a love of reading in both Mandarin and English. Throughout the week, students had to have a book with them at all times, as at any moment they could be told to ‘Drop Everything and Read.’
