ycis-girls-basketballIn January, twenty students and four staff members of Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai) travelled to Beijing for the ACAMIS Orange Division Basketball Tournament, and the YCIS girls’ team won first place. The boys’ team also played some excellent and aggressive basketball and won third place.

The girls’ team laced up their shoes and took to the court, all the way to overtime in the finals. The game started as a close affair with neither team scoring for six minutes of the first quarter, but then the game sprang to life. YCIS Shanghai took an early lead only to see the score ebb and flow, back and forth between the two teams. The YCIS girls had won over the hearts of the other teams during the competition due to their energetic and gritty style of play. The crowd really got together and cheered loudly throughout the game. The extra support helped the YCIS girls overcome a 5-point deficit in the final 30 seconds of the game and force it to overtime. The YCIS girls then showed their real mettle, by using their final energy reserves to push throughout overtime. YCIS eventually pulled out four points in front to win the game and end the tournament as ACAMIS Champions!
