The annual Book Week in November at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS) was a celebration of reading and literature.

ycis-book-2sAcross the week students participated in a range of activities; from literature quizzes and quests to literature readings by staff and quiet reading accompanied by hot chocolate, pyjamas and pillows. The highlight this year was the visit of professional storyteller, Roger Jenkins. Roger presented stories from all over the world to the Kindergarten and Primary students, re-igniting a passion for oral storytelling. He also presented a workshop to parents on ways to bond with children through storytelling. For the Kindergarten and Primary teachers he showed how storytelling can be used as a significant teaching strategy in the classroom.

While Secondary students were battling wits in a literature trivia quiz, the Kindergarten and Primary students were treated to visits by two very special guests; Clifford the Big Red Dog and Geronimo Stilton. Primary students also dressed as their favorite story character and paraded their costumes for all to see.

It was truly wonderful to dedicate time to celebrating and enjoying reading. Read on!
