Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS) students took part in the North ACAMIS Mathematics Olympiad on November 27 at Dulwich College Beijing.

ycis-maths-olympiadThe event was much bigger than previous years with a total of 69 teams from 12 international schools competing. YCIS Beijing entered six teams in three divisions from Years 7, 8 and 9. The competition programme consisted of three rounds; an individual event and two team rounds.

In the individual rounds, YCIS students performed exceptionally well winning 1st place in Years 7 (Charles Yin) and 9 (Helen Cao) and 3rd place for Year 8 (Hee Sun Yun). As this was the first year for the individual competition the students and teachers were very proud of this result.

In the team results the Year 8 Team 1 did very well by achieving 3rd place with only one point separating 1st and 3rd place. In the overall results YCIS Beijing came in 2nd place just behind the hosts Dulwich College Beijing.

The Math department worked hard with the teams to prepare them for the event by practicing with past questions and sharing ‘top tips’ for answering tough questions. This meant that the students felt well prepared and confident when they entered the competition.
