Students from Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) planted a tree on March 26 as a symbol of the school’s commitment to conservation and improving the environment for the community. The planting ceremony was attended by Honglingjin Park Authority officials, and YCIS Beijing staff, teachers and students from Early Childhood Education and Year 5. The tree carried a plaque that read, “The YCIS Tree of Friendship for the enjoyment of the residents of Beijing and the betterment of the environment.” ycis-park-tree-planting-s

The students chose to plant the tree in Honglingjin Park as the YCIS Beijing campus is located within its boundaries and students regularly visit the park to study the changing seasons, observe nature and to enjoy the green oasis in downtown Beijing. The students also hope that this gift can be a symbol of the friendship they share with the local community.

The planting of the Tree of Hope is only one activity in the month-long lead-up to Global Community at YCIS Beijing. From March 17th to April 17th the whole school has been involved in green projects and preparation for the annual event.
