jing-ting-interviewYew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) Year 13 student Jing Ting Cheah from Malaysia and her peers have managed to raise 14,000 RMB to fund an operation for orphan baby Yuan to have cleft palate surgery, working with the charity ‘Help a Child Smile’ (HACS), and allow the baby to lead a normal life.

Jing Ting found out about the HACS charity at a Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Fair held at YCIS Beijing and organised several charity fundraisers in order to achieve the required cost of the operation for baby Yuan. The fundraisers included delivering roses on Valentine’s Day, bake sales and selling homemade bracelets. Working with such a worthy cause has really inspired Jing Ting to do even more.

“I am planning to continue working with HACS by organizing events within school to fundraise for their children’s surgeries. Also, I want this to be a sustainable foundation that the school will work with after I graduate I will pass this on to the future Year 13s. I will be focusing on HACS for now as I think keeping a close relationship with one charity is really important for a good start.”
