On 8 and 9 April, Secondary students in Years 7-9 from Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) participated in the final Chinese Production Assemblies of this academic year to a large audience of parents and teachers in the school auditorium.

Each and every student was given the opportunity to showcase their Chinese language and culture knowledge. Within the assemblies, students were able to show what a normal day in Chinese class looks like, as well as the fascinating ways in which they have been learning including reading poems, singing songs, sharing traditional Chinese stories and role-playing numerous everyday situations.

The purpose of the assemblies, introduced last academic year, is to promote authentic Chinese learning at YCIS Beijing. Within the Chinese Production Assemblies, the aim is not only to present the learning outcomes from Chinese classes, but also contents that are related and based on Chinese culture, such as the origin of Chinese characters, Chinese idioms, the meaning and background of Chinese ancient poems and traditional Chinese customs.

Jessica Sun, Secondary Chinese Coordinator at YCIS Beijing, was quick to praise the efforts of the students: “I feel very proud that every student took to the stage to not only speak Chinese, but to speak with so much confidence. They have really embraced the language and culture of China and truly deserve the praise they have received.”
