ycis-bj-mid-autumn-workshop-2On September 24th, Primary School students at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) celebrated the lunar Mid-Autumn festival with teachers and classmates. In addition to learning traditional stories and history about this cherished festival, the school also invited local mooncake baking experts to teach the students how to make mooncakes of their own. Children were guided through each step of the process, from rolling the dough to injecting the filling, to stamping the beautiful classic mooncake designs onto each cake. After baking, students delivered freshly baked mooncakes to YCIS Beijing teachers and staff around campus. The students did a fantastic job.

This event represents just one of many examples of YCIS Beijing’s commitment to Chinese language and culture learning. Activities like these help students interact with Chinese culture outside of the classroom. Through these projects, children can familiarize themselves with the country in which they are currently living. Their surroundings are no longer viewed as odd or foreign, but rather something to be embraced and cherished.
