ycis-bj-careers-in-finance-3On 22 October, Yew Chung International School of Beijing hosted the first in a series of Careers Evenings this academic, focusing on Careers in Business and Finance. The evening was open to the whole Beijing community, providing students the opportunity to gain practical advice and a realistic feel for their potential careers paths. There was also an opportunity to ask questions to guest speakers James Lee from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and Sisi Zhang from HSBC, two leading professionals in international finance.

After a warm welcome speech from YCIS Beijing Co-Principal Noel Thomas, James Lee spoke to the students and parents in the audience, giving a detailed overview of the skills and attributes needed to succeed at university and how to transition from university to their first career opportunities in Finance. James also presented a very clear pattern regarding how to build one’s career from an entry-level position in a company to obtaining the highest management and director level jobs.

Sisi Zhang was next to present and she offered the students a wide range of advice in terms of how to make the best of their time at university, getting involved in internships in order to add more value to their early resume and the importance of networking to build strong relationships with other professionals.

The Careers Evening YCIS Beijing is holding this year are an extension of the regular University Guidance Programme at the school. Ryan Jordan, University Guidance Counselor added, “We hold Career talks in order to give students the opportunity to interact with job professionals from various career fields and to begin exploring their career opportunities beyond secondary and university education. Guest speakers share information about their careers and jobs, including roles and responsibilities, background and professional experiences, and talk about prospects of the profession in the future.”

The next Career Evening at YCIS Beijing will be held on 26 November and will focus on the healthcare industry, with guests speakers John Williams from International SOS and Dr. Sarah Zhang from BUPA China.
