ycis-bj-film-festival-2On Tuesday 27 January, the Secondary teachers and students of Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) gathered in the school auditorium to attend the annual YCIS Film Festival. From trailers to short movies, romance to horror, the audience was engrossed in what was a hugely successful event. Organized by the Student Council, the YCIS Film Festival competition truly celebrates the unique and creative talents of the student community at the school. In addition, the festival allowed students the chance to really experiment with their movie-making skills and editing techniques.

Two highlights of the festival included Go With Yew Chung, an amusing dance and music film that gave an insight into international education and environment at school starring Year 13 student Ted Jin and Untitled_04, an increasingly terrifying horror mystery movie created and performed by Year 11 students David Tso, Marcus Chung, Wilfred Wu, Marcello & Emanuel Finocchiaro.

Nine winning films were played and reviewed in total at the gala by the whole of the Secondary School and the teachers, as well as two special teacher film entries, one of which had an original score composed by Vice Principal of Secondary Dr Duggan. This year a new text voting system was conducted very successfully during a wonderful musical performance by the Year 10 band featuring Theo Cui, Siew Png Sim, Wilfred Wu and Li Yong Wong, as well a soulful duet by Sella Lee and Dong Jun Lee.

The film festival was one of many projects undertaken by the School Council so far this year, and there are several more ambitious projects still to come. Congratulations to all who contributed, participated, performed and helped behind the scenes in making this year’s YCIS Beijing Film Festival one of the best yet!
