ycis-bj-chinese-production-assembliesOn 29 and 30 October, Yew Chung International School of Beijing Primary students performed in the first of the Chinese Production Assemblies this academic year to a full audience of parents and teachers in the school auditorium.

The Year 1 and 2 students, the Chinese First Language (CFL) students in Years 3 and 4 and the Chinese as an Additional Language (CAL) students from Years 5 and 6 were all given the opportunity to showcase their Chinese language cultural knowledge. Within the assemblies, students showed what a normal day in Chinese class looks like, as well as the fascinating ways in which they have been learning. For example, the CAL students read poems, sang songs, shared stories and played traditional Chinese games with real flair. To improve the efficiency of learning Chinese characters, the CFL students analyzed the methods of making Chinese characters. The assembly itself was not only happy and relaxing, but also incorporated a studious atmosphere.

The purpose of the assemblies, first introduced last year, is to promote authentic Chinese learning at YCIS Beijing. Within the Chinese Production Assemblies, the aim is not only to present the learning outcomes from Chinese classes, but also contents that are related and based on Chinese culture, like the origin of Chinese characters, Chinese idioms, the meaning and background of Chinese ancient poems and traditional Chinese customs.
