ycis-bj-global-community-day-2On Saturday, 17 May, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) held its 6th annual Global Community Day with the theme ‘Celebrating the Beijing Community’. The event is one of the biggest events in the Beijing international school calendar, providing a fantastic opportunity for not just the YCIS Beijing community, but also the wider Beijing community to enjoy a great day of performances, fun games for both children and adults and a diverse range of food and beverages throughout the day.

Throughout the day there were a whole host of performances, including the YCIS Beijing Jazz Band, Primary Choir, Secondary Orchestra and songs from the Primary School musical performance of Aladdin earlier this year. To provide a truly international experience, over 50 vendors were in attendance, providing services including food and beverages, hospitality, children’s play centres and charity organisations.

As well as the musical performances, there were so many entertaining activities on offer, suitable for both adults and children including dress up games; face painting, cartoon drawings, teaching children how to make soap, slack lining, mini golf and designing bags.

In addition to these individual games, there was a gym bonanza in the YCIS Beijing school gynasium to get involved in sports. For admirers of art, two art exhibitions were held; one outside in the playground area featuring the wonderful paintings of the YCIS Beijing Parents’ Organisation, and in Building D attendees were able to appreciate some of Artist-in-Residence Sara Barati’s professional artwork and the students’ creations.

Last but not least, restaurant vendors including Element Fresh, VAI Milano, Schindler’s and Migas to name a provided every kind of culinary delight and beverage imaginable such as healthy juices, BBQ grilled meat and vegetables, Asian classics, fresh fruits, tasty ice cream and freshly baked cookies!

After such an amazing family event, all the proceeds from Global Community Day will go towards the YCIS charity Seeds of Hope, a charity project that builds schools for underprivileged children in rural areas of China.
