ycis-bj-gcdOn 23 May, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) held its 7th annual Global Community Day with the theme ‘Celebrating International Culture’. The event is always one of the biggest events in the Beijing international school calendar, providing a fantastic opportunity for not just the YCIS Beijing community, but also the wider Beijing community to enjoy a great day of performances, fun games for both children and adults, and a diverse range of food and beverages.

Throughout the day, there were a whole host of performances including the YCIS Beijing Jazz Band, Primary Choir, Secondary Orchestra and songs from the Primary school’s musical performance of Annie that was staged earlier this year. To provide a truly international experience, over 50 vendors providing services including food and beverages, hospitality, clothing and jewellery, outdoor activities and charity organizations were in attendance. Other entertaining activities on offer included face painting, a bouncy castle, fun slides, sack racing, arts and crafts activities and a very popular ‘soak the teacher’ game.

Art exhibitions were also held during the day; one outside in the playground area featuring wonderful paintings from the YCIS Beijing Parents Organization while in Building D, attendees were able to appreciate some of Artist-in-Residence Elizabeth Briel’s professional artworks and many of the students’ artistic creations.  After celebrating such a fun-filled family event, all the proceeds from Global Community Day will go towards the YCIS charity Seeds of Hope, a project that builds schools for underprivileged children in rural areas of China.
