bcis-xperiencebcis-summer-campXperienceBCIS is a two-week summer camp specially designed to help new students transition to Beijing City International School (BCIS). The focus of the program is to help these students become acclimated to their new environment.

Over the course of the camp, during 21 July – 4 August, numerous interesting activities were conducted, with the children taking on different challenges.

Elementary School students worked on sewing and painting beautiful artistic pieces, baking cookies, and more. One of the more popular activities was creating protective armor for the famous character Humpty Dumpty that would have saved him from his tragic fall. It was certainly clear the Elementary School students adapted well to the education system implemented by the school, as well as reshaping and forming their own personal learning habits.

Meanwhile, Secondary School students were split into three groups that worked on various projects, learning these three important facts:

Be Aware of Who You Are: The group primarily “dug into” themselves during this tight period to find their strengths and weaknesses, as well as learn their preferences and habits, which are fundamental when communicating and cooperating with others.

Be Empathetic and Critical During Information Processing: Faced with the challenge of providing products or resources that would help new teachers settle in to the BCIS community, the “HuanYing!” (which stands for “Welcome” in Chinese) group needed to develop empathy for those teachers and their situation.

Be Logical in Resource and Time Management: The members of the “Document Us!” group were given the most challenging task of recording and documenting all the interesting happenings of the XperienceBCIS Secondary School camp. Their final product was a 10-minute documentary telling the story of this year’s camp in a fun and creative way.

Grade 6 student Gina perfectly summed up what the XperienceBCIS summer camp was about when she stated, “I met a lot of new friends and experienced a lot of things I have not done before.”
