World Book Day at Wellington Shanghai

The day of 1 March was World Book Day and, once again, Wellington College International Shanghai celebrated this most special literary occasion dedicated to all authors, illustrators and (most importantly) the books that people love to read.

Wellington was transformed into a ‘world of wonder’, as pupils and teachers dressed as some of their favorite literary characters. A lot of love and passion went into these costumes: clearly the authors’ descriptive talents did a great job inspiring everybody.

Wellington also welcomed some special guests for two days of workshops, put on for both parents and pupils, to help celebrate and explore the importance and fun of reading.

Victoria Dilly, literary activist and program manager for the UK’s National Literacy Trust, undertook a series of parents’ workshops that highlighted the critical importance of supporting their children’s reading habits. These sessions outlined how parents can encourage their children to choose enjoyable and appropriate books, read for pleasure and increase their understanding of literacy and literature.

Marcus Dilly, a professional actor and founder of production company Creative Education UK, treated the Pre-Prep and Prep School pupils to a series of high-energy, fast-paced, interactive storytelling shows.

It is hoped that everyone involved in World Book Day 2018 is inspired to find the time to pick up a book and enjoy reading.
