World Book Day at Harrow Shanghai

Harrow International School Shanghai celebrated the written word and love of reading with its second World Book Day in March.

All pupils were encouraged to dress up as a character from their favorite book. A lot of thought went into choosing a favorite book as well as into selecting an outfit.

In Early Years, the children excitedly shared their books with their friends. During the day, each year group’s activities followed a different theme. In Pre-Nursery children talked about farm animals, in Nursery they learnt about life cycles and in Reception they went on a treasure hunt under the sea! They all had a great day celebrating their love of books.

The Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior Schools also filled the corridors with color and creativity as they came dressed as characters from their favorite stories and tales. There were wizards and witches, assassins and all sorts of fantasy creatures. The day was filled with literacy and reading tasks too! The staff also came dressed as book characters, and although some of them showed their age, they proved together that reading is important to us all, both inside and outside the school walls.

The last ‘chapter’ of the day saw all the pupils take part in a celebratory assembly where the costumes were shown to all, the role of the library was promoted, and pupils presented to their peers about their favorite book and why it was important to them. Many of the pupils left knowing what book they were going to read next as a result and as they made their way to the buses after a fun-packed day, the book closed on another successful event.
