The first International School Library Symposium in January 2011 was a huge success. 70 delegates from all over China and other parts of Asia were in attendance, and the feedback was extremely positive. The attendees were made up of library staff, consisting of professionals, paraprofessionals, and assistants.

The 2nd School Library Symposium will be hosted at the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) this November. The program and topics will be even more focused. Delegates will be asked to choose from a selection of topics of interest, and will gain in-depth exposure into this field and take part in hands-on creation. The goal is for everyone to leave the Symposium with a finished project that can immediately be implemented in their own library. Some of the key topics areas will look at original ways of cataloguing, creating a wiki as a promotional tool for the library, and learning more about copyright and creative commons.

The symposium combines activities over the whole weekend, from November 4th to 6th. There is a pre-symposium dinner on the Friday night for the delegates to socialize and get to know each other; Saturday will consist of a series of workshops and activities, and then on Sunday delegates will have a chance to visit the libraries at Shanghai American School and Rainbow Bridge International School.
