WISS Students Extend a Helping Hand

wiss-grade-5sGrade 5 students at the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) have decided to help make a difference to the life of one little girl. They were motivated by famous people they were learning about at school who dared to change the world. Their inspiration came from two-year-old Chloe, the cousin of two of the Grade 5 students at WISS. Chloe is suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a degenerative motor-neuron disease which means that her muscles shrink and become weak. Spinal Muscular Atrophy kills more babies than any other genetic disease. The progression of Chloe’s disease means she can no longer walk without assistance and will require a custom made wheelchair when she is 3 years old.

Using music as a way of raising money, the students created “Make a dream come true”; an original song with meaningful lyrics set to a beautiful melody. The students were then given the opportunity to record their song at Mao Livehouse, a professional studio in Shanghai. This was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Mr. Michael Luevano. The CD will be on sale through the school from May 31 and launches a week of organized fund raising activities. The money raised during this week will go towards the 90,000 Yuan that is required to purchase Chloe’s wheelchair.

If you would like to help Grade 5 make a difference, please contact Anne Drouet (adrouet@wiss.cn) or Fiona Collins (fcollins@wiss.cn) or phone 69766388 to make a donation.
