wiss-back-to-school-sThe Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) reported a 30% growth in student numbers from the end of the last school year. An IB World School in the west of Shanghai, WISS offers the International Baccalaureate from the Primary Years Program (PYP) through to the Diploma Program (DP). WISS maintains its record low turnover of international staff and the lowest teacher-student ratio in Shanghai: 1: 6 across the school. WISS also saw an addition to their Administration, welcoming back Ms. Fiona Morris to take on the role of Principal of their expanding Early Years Education facility.

WISS has made many developments across the school’s spacious campus. Taking a tour of the school, you are led through wide corridors and classrooms bursting with natural light, and the whole feeling is one of relaxed and happy students and parents. The buildings are designed around ample playing fields and courtyards, with additional indoor sports facilities and a black-box theatre. There is an extensive wing of art studios, science labs, tech centers, and a café area adjoining the internationally catered dining hall. New English and Music facilities have just been opened, and a new running track, floodlit playing field, and baseball diamond will come online soon to support their growing sports and activity programs.

Tom Kline, the Director of WISS, expressed his optimism for the year ahead, “As we continue to grow and add new features to our campus, we further expand the horizons of our young people and the possibilities that unfold as they progress along our IB continuum. WISS is stronger than ever and it is my pleasure to welcome our community to what will be another year of caring, first-class education.”
