wellington-tj-french-weekThe week of 21 March at Wellington College International Tianjin celebrated all things French as part of Francophone Week, a worldwide event.

The French-themed assembly was the highlight of the week, with many pupils and teachers who speak or study French taking part in a performance in Wellington College’s Black Box. This included a fashion show, a screening of a French short animated film, a talk from the head of the Alliance Française in Tianjin and a dance routine to a French hit, choreographed by the pupils with help from Jane Griffiths.

Outside the Black Box, Wellington pupils competed in houses in a number of quizzes and challenges that covered most of the subjects taught in the Senior School; from art and design to economics and history. Most popular, unsurprisingly, was a food table where pupils named famous French dishes and ingredients and tasted different cheeses. France has over 300 types of cheese!

Pupils from each house were also set a KTV-style challenge of recording two very different songs in French – the French National Anthem and a punk song from the 70’s by Plastic Bertrand. The results were interesting to say the least!

Finally, the winner of the quiz competition was Stanley House, who were treated to a French breakfast.
