wellington-shanghai-bj16Two recent residential trips offered opportunities for Wellington College International Shanghai pupils to travel and to develop skills that would help build a foundation for their future growth.

Shortly after the start of the school year, Year 8 pupils set off from the Wellington campus for their annual expedition to Dianshan Lake. During the three-day trip, Wellingtonians enjoyed an educational and social experience far from their usual environment and comfort zones. They were involved in a variety of activities, including kayaking, raft building and dragon boat racing, to enhance their skills working as a team and to overcome obstacles.

Following their older peers, Year 7 pupils experienced a three-day trip in Beijing. The Beijing trip introduced the pupils to new people, allowing them to practice their language skills and general communication. It also gave them context, putting culture, history, geography and language into a new light with which the Wellingtonians were able to better see the world.

Through such experiences, far from their usual environment and comfort zones, the pupils showed exactly what it means to be a Wellingtonian, from developing independence to inspiring others. The residential trips helped them to develop resilience and to build long-lasting relationships away from the classroom. Every pupil came back ready to reach their potential. Beyond the classroom, the education at Wellington equips pupils with the skills to become tomorrow’s global leaders.
