“We Arise Now” — YCIS Shanghai Graduation IB Art Show

ycis April 9, 2008 was a memorable night for ten Year Thirteen IB Visual Arts students at Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (YCIS Shanghai). The students produced work in an impressive array of mediums, focusing on a range of themes that were deeply personal to societal commentaries.

Eight of the ten students represented in the show will go on to study art at the post-secondary level next year. The students have been ycisbanner accepted at top art schools in North America and the UK.

Naomi won the top international scholarship from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). The full tuition scholarship is worth US$103,000 over four years. She also was offered US$50,000 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and US$70,000 from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, totaling over US$220,000. In addition, Melissa received a large scholarship from SCAD worth US$60,000 over four years; Shreya’s portfolio gained her US$40,000 in scholarships over four years at the San Francisco Art Institute; and Youjin was offered US$10,000 from the Maryland Institute and US$12,000 from SMFA Boston over four years.

In total, the visual arts students have won US$370,000 thus far in scholarships this year.

This follows the great success of last year’s visual art students who were offered US$350,000 in scholarships.

The IB Visual Art students from YCIS Shanghai have won, in total, US$720,000 in scholarships in the last 2 years.
