Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Geoffrey Andrews as Director of WAB, beginning in the 2011-2012 school year.

Geoff comes to WAB from Oberlin, Ohio in the United States where he served as Superintendent of the Oberlin School District for five years. During his tenure there, he inspired and led the economically and culturally diverse District to its status as the first in the state authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs. Geoff increased both the Oberlin schools’ academic expectations and educational standing, bringing them to an ‘Excellent’ rating under Ohio state standards. Because of Mr. Andrews’ record of achievement, the Governor of Ohio invited Geoff to serve on the Creativity and Innovation in Education Commission and on the Ohio State task force to redefine educational leadership.

Geoffrey Andrews began his career in 1983 as a computer science and mathematics teacher. In his twenty-three years in public and private education, he has taught at grade levels ranging from middle years to graduate school. Geoff shares WAB’s passionate commitment to students, to excellence, and to life-long learning.

Geoff has relocated to Beijing with his wife, Cindy, and his daughter, Rachael, who will be joining Grade 10 at WAB. His son, Michael, attends college in the US. Geoff has expressed that he is both humbled and thrilled to accept this new role and offers his deep appreciation for the opportunity. The entire WAB community – students, parents, and staff – welcomes Geoff and his family.
