wab-isac-2Grades 3, 4 and 5 students from Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) earned nearly every gold medal available at the Elementary School ISAC Track & Field meet on 8 May.

Hosted on WAB’s Tiger Field, the International School Association of China (ISAC) event brought students from several international schools in Beijing to compete in events, including hurdles, 400m, 60m sprint, relays, javelin and long jump.

WAB students had been preparing for the meet for more than a month, and were anxious to test their fitness and skills against their peers. They identified themselves as clear favorites, as WAB students earned 32 of the 34 gold medals up for grabs at the event.

They also set three new records. Oskar Hutchinson set a new record in the U9 boys 60m sprint with a time of 8.78 seconds. Luca Spadone ran a time of 8.83 seconds in the U10 boys 60m sprint. And Pippa Smyth threw her javelin 16.19 meters in the U9 girls division.

As a team, the WAB students were able to convincingly win all six relay races.

The results and sportsmanship on display were a great reward for the students who sacrificed their time and energy in preparation for the sports meet.
