ycis-bj-violin-concert-1On 24 April, a full audience of parents, students and teachers were treated to an array of exceptional violin performances by the Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing) Year 1-3 students. The concert was a real tribute to the violin programme at YCIS Beijing and how far the students have developed in another wonderful year of violin study.

The Year 1 students were first to display their skills, playing songs such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with a piano accompaniment. The Year 2 students, who amazed the audience with their renditions of Bingo and Allegro, followed them. Finally, the more experienced Year 3 students gave further faultless performances of some more challenging pieces, including a Chinese song named Sweet Osmanthus.

The students deserve a lot of recognition for their hard work, effort and attitude during the school year and the praise they received from the parents, teachers and their peers present reflected the quality of the concert.

Students in Years 1-3 at YCIS Beijing have two violin classes a week to help develop necessary basic skills of instrumental study and encourage an interest in music at an early age. Studying music helps you to be more analytical, recognize patterns and memorize data. This is of particular importance at YCIS Beijing as there is such an emphasis on language study. A lot of students who study music have great mathematical and language ability because of the skills they have learnt, and the earlier student starts the better.
