Shanghai YK Pao School has recently joined together with 10 pavilions from the Expo including the UK pavilion, NZ pavilion, Cyprus pavilion, Portugal pavilion and Swiss Cities UBPA pavilion to hold the Green Expo project. On the 4th of November, the first truckload of material from the Cyprus pavilion was shipped to YK Pao School’s secondary school campus in Songjiang, including building material, desks and chairs, kitchen ware, lights, electrical appliances and walls to be reused, becoming part of the YKPS’s boarding campus that is currently under construction.

Ms Daphne of the Cypriot pavilion was the first person to sign up. Working in education in Beijing, as soon as she heard that the materials would be used in the non-profit YK Pao School, she immediately agreed. She said that she didn’t mind how much promotion the pavilion can get, what she cared about was the education of the children and the needs of the environment.

YK Pao School completed its green Expo project with the help a few green NGOs including GIGA, JUCCCE, and S.H.E. The architect from green architectural organization, GIGA, Ryan Dick, repeatedly visited pavilions and inspected sites to ascertain which materials could be used. YK Pao School parent, Cindy Ma from S.H.E. was project manager, making overall arrangements, managing and coordinating volunteer teams. Another parent, Peggy Liu of JUCCCE, networked with other organizations and individuals, "finding the most suitable people to do the suitable work most suitable to them.”
