Some brave and creative students took to the round, red carpet at Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) to share inspiring ideas at TEDxYouth@WISS.

wiss-tedx-2016The audience was moved by Margherita Girardi and Belen Martinic’s openness, as they explained how self-esteem and self-confidence could be transient and that people should talk about it more. Danielle Popov had everyone beaming as she explored the universal power of smile on everyday lives. Cooper Vardy had the audience question their own feelings and actions as he discussed regret, in an amusing, insightful and powerful talk, showing all how to handle and move past regret. Three impressive Primary school students, Yoav Reshef, Elizabeth Nishio and Rei Meytal touched the audience’s hearts as they shared their personal experiences with change in international environment and advised parents as to how they could help their children and themselves in face of changes.

Alongside these phenomenal student speakers was WISS parent, Danny Khursigara, an experienced life coach; a guest speaker to WISS, Fred Yang, a farmer and social entrepreneur; and WISS Staff member, Mark McAuley.

McAuley opened the event with an excellent delivery of a thought provoking talk about the importance of giving children love and joy in their younger years. In a caring and insightful way, Khursigara showed how people need to live their lives with purpose and how that would lead people to find true fulfillment and happiness. Yang brought the audience into his life and explained how sustainable farming could be a solution for China’s deteriorating communities in the rural areas and the cities.
