On the evening of 14 January, Angels International Bilingual Kindergarten greeted the beginning of the New Year by staging its second annual New Year’s Concert.

This year’s event was held in Suzhou, at the brand new Grand Theatre located near the beautiful Jinji Lake, a facility considered by most as a landmark development for the city’s culture and art community.Led by China’s most renowned conductor, Chen Xie Yang, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra warmed the hearts and imaginations of all who attended, both Angels big and small.

Mr. Chen, who has served as conductor for the China National Symphony Orchestra and was a key driver of its modernization and reform, was joined by Dr. Wang Yong who acted as host for the evening. The two revered musical virtuosos delivered a night to remember, as renditions of masterpieces including the Spring Festival Overture and The Tortoise and the Hare captivated the audience for close to two hours.

Angels’ principal Yoko Su was quick to point out what a truly momentous occasion it was to have such talent in one building on one night, and applauded those in attendance for their support and etiquette as the evening progressed.

“It really is a special occasion,” Su said of the concert. “And for many of our Angels in attendance, some as young as two years old, it might just be a ‘once in a lifetime’ event.” The Orchestra closed the evening by playing Angels’ Alma Mater – joined on stage by a number of students and their family members as well as a number of Angel’s faculty –  to a standing ovation.

Angels International Bilingual Kindergarten looks forward to hosting its annual New Year’s concert again in twelve months’ time, an event they have already began planning for.
