biss-puxi-juilliard-launch-3The British International School Shanghai, Pudong and Puxi Campuses recently launched their collaboration with the world-renowned conservatory, The Juilliard School.

The launch evenings included stunning performances from two Juilliard alumni, Stephanie Song on violin accompanied by Peng Peng Gong. Both originally from China, Stephanie is now a Professor of Music at The Suzhou University School of Music and Gong is the Composer in Residence at the Shanghai Philharmonic. Stephanie also spoke about her journey with The Juilliard School, which she was accepted into when she was only ten years old, and what the school and its community has meant to her over the years and still today, which was inspiring to hear.

Earlier in the evening the new Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Program was introduced by Tricia Ross, Managing Director of Site-Based Program Development, Juilliard Global Ventures. This is The Juilliard School’s first collaboration with a school outside of the US and Ross talked about the great excitement within Juilliard about the new partnership with Nord Anglia Education, and how the new performing arts program will build on the great talent within the school.

BISS Puxi and Pudong students also performed, showcasing the talent in music, drama and dance across the two schools. BISS Puxi students performed scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and there were solo performances from Year 4 vocalist Asia Carra and Year 13 classic guitarist Hyo Jae Lee, whilst BISS Pudong’s performers included the five students shortlisted for the Nord Anglia Education Global Orchestra and the IB and Women’s Choirs.

From September 2015 students at BISS will benefit from a unique performing arts curriculum jointly developed by Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School, which has been designed to inspire students with artistic ambitions and enrich the creative skills of all students beyond the arts.
