sas-el-grupo-ziplineDuring the recent Spring Break, nine students from Shanghai American School’s Puxi Campus and 2 High School teachers had "the courage to live their dreams," as they made their way from Shanghai, China to Sarapiquí, Costa Rica.

The students and teachers spent five nights in the rainforest and accumulated a wealth of experiences: whether it was zipping through the forest on a 12-cable canopy tour, navigating the waters of the Sarapiquí River during white water rafting, learning about the different stages of chocolate production (and getting to sample!), seeing how wooden jewelry is made, visiting a volcano, taking Spanish classes with a ‘tico’ teacher, helping out at the Conservation and Learning Center and getting CAS hours for the IB diploma, seeing some of the world’s most exotic and unique creatures like the Jesus Christ lizard (which skims across water as if it was walking on water) and the red-eyed tree frog, relaxing in the hammock on the verandah of the rain forest lodge, savoring Costa Rica’s rich cuisine like gallo pinto for breakfast, or simply experiencing, first-hand, ‘pura vida’ – there was excitement, learning and awe around every corner! Opportunities to learn and to grow were numerous on this trip that gave the SAS students an opportunity to embrace diversity and be global citizens.
