Stan Chu, a Bank Street School professor in New York, visited Tsinghua International School from March 28th to Apr 3rd. During this time, he introduced the Bank Street Approach to teachers of Tsinghua International School by delivering demonstration classes to students and running workshops for the teachers and parents, including photography teaching, experiment teaching and so on.stan-chu-2s

Initiated by the New York City-based Bank Street College of Education, the Bank Street Approach is exemplified by experience-based, interdisciplinary and collaborative classes for children to learn from their own discovering experience.

For students at Bank Street School, which dates back more than 90 years, cooking, block building, dramatic play, lab work, painting and field trips, etc. are regarded as basic life experiences from which understanding and knowledge can be constructed. Stan Chu said: “The biggest advantage of the Bank Street Approach is to have your children deal with direct, first-hand experience.”

With the help of Columbia University, Tsinghua International School is using this approach in primary school, and the middle school is scheduled to use this approach from September.
