Twenty students from the Shanghai Singapore International School’s Model UN programme were selected to attend the fourth annual Concordia MUN Conference (CISSMUN IV) in Shanghai between 17 and 19 January 2013. Schools attending this conference were from all over Asia as well as from as far away as Rome, Italy, giving this conference a true international feeling.

The SSIS delegates represented the nations of Pakistan, Israel, Cameroon and Sweden on UN Committees of the General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Security Council, Advisory Panel, and the International Court of Justice.

Each SSIS MUN delegate ambassador gave an opening speech on their nation and the specific issues that were most relevant to the health, welfare and/or safety of the population of their nation and the region surrounding it. This would be a synopsis of the Position Paper that they have researched and developed on an issue from their country’s point of view. They then would begin the reading of position papers, offer resolutions, answer questions about their resolution, add or remove items from the resolution, lobby for support of their position during breaks and then reconvene for a vote on the acceptance or rejection of their resolution as a formal solution to an issue from their committee.

All SSIS MUN Delegate Ambassadors fully participated in all aspects of the CISSMUN IV Conference and came away with wonderful memories, new friends, and a greater understanding of real-world issues that we all face today.
