SSIS Senior School Musical A Great Success

Shanghai Singapore International School (SSIS) Senior School’s production of Fame the Musical was a huge success recently. This international hit was given a local twist by director Khuan Wei. The live music led by Mr. Tymstra and choreography from Barbara Jayne and Linda Kiefer had brought out the best in the cast and enthusiastic cheering from the audience.

The story takes place in the high school of Performing Arts and follows the lives of a dozen students over a four-year period. The play opens with Pray I Make P.A., performed with great energy and wonderful dance moves by the whole cast. Many parents found them familiar with the emotions expressed, the students’ anticipation and anxiety about whether or not they will be accepted to the school. The rest of the play follows the students through their years at the school, their trials and tribulations, the friendships and the conflicts, and their growing skills and love of the performing arts.

There were great roles from Nam Hee Su and Melody Hsieh Li Fang as the two teachers, Miss Sherman and Miss Bell. They had everyone laughing out loud. All the students were convincing in their roles and really made everyone empathize with their struggles for success. The wonderful scenery stretching across the whole auditorium helped immerse the audience in the world of the high school of Performing Arts.

All the hard work from the teachers and students really paid off; everyone left the theatre humming the tunes, tapping their feet and looking forward to the next SSIS production.
