ssis-suzhou-news-bop1From the 4-6 December, Suzhou Singapore International School (SSIS) was transported back to last century in BOP – A Fabulous Fifties Blast from the Past that celebrated the music and fun of the 1950s in the US.

Using an original script designed to showcase the student’s talents, the show told the story of the foibles of the “fictional” Dalton High School staging a play, written by their eccentric drama teacher, Ms Mooney. Songs for the show came from many sources, including Elvis Presley and other singers of the late 1950s and early 1960s, Grease, High School Musical and even Hairspray.

Writer and director Dotti Frisinger said, “There were no big parts – it was very much an ensemble cast.  The show was very song and dance intensive, under the direction of our student head choreographer, Margaux Von Buren.”

BOP was very much a student-led production. Our student director, Chong Qu, acted, prompted and helped direct the show and the show band was made up of SSIS students.”

SSIS students even took the show to the community, with the cast performing several numbers at key locations in Suzhou.

“The performances were well-received and it was exciting to take our show out into the community,” said Frisinger.
