28 swimmers from Shanghai Rego International School (SRIS) made the journey to Manila to compete in the British School Manila International Swim Meet. Schools from all over Asia attended, and the standard of competition was exceedingly high. This made competition for points and medals extremely difficult, but the Rego Team ‘dug deep’ and proved that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the international school swim scene.rego-manila-swim-s
Every SRIS swimmer produced numerous personal best times and it is clear that the increased swimming provision at the school has made a significant difference to the swimmers’ technique, as well as their aerobic fitness. There were some outstanding individual performances from both the primary and secondary contingents.
Maxence Boggio was the only primary medal winner when he produced an outstanding swim to take bronze in the 50m breast stroke. Julianne Wu also took bronze in the 400m Freestyle, which was an excellent achievement for her first performance in a distance event. Secondary swimmers showed their versatility by producing multiple medal wins across all 4 swimming disciplines. Nathalie Hubin and Melissa Jones were the outstanding medal winners as between them they managed to pick up 7 medals.
The children stayed with host families from the British School Manila and they enjoyed a fantastic day at Ocean Adventure Park, where they had some swimming lessons from the best dolphin kickers in the world – actual dolphins.
