sris-intl-award-hangzhouOn May 26th, nine Year 10 students and ten staff of Shanghai Rego International School set off on the train to Hangzhou. The purpose of this trip was to complete the Bronze Adventurous Journey as part of the International Award. The students had already planned their routes and bought their food provisions in advance. The weekend would now put their plans into practice.

The two groups set off on the first day and experienced a variety of obstacles, such as inadequate maps, bamboo forests and steep inclines, made harder with the backpacks that they all had to carry. However, all students remained in high spirits, managed to find the campsite, and had enough time to create their own group film! The evening was spent in a campsite of sorts, and apart from the ambush of mosquitoes, all groups enjoyed a peaceful evening; cooking a variety of meals on our camp stoves and appreciating the natural beauty that China has to offer.

Sunday was an early start for all groups – trekking uphill through some famous tea villages, through more bamboo and eventually reaching the causeway and the hoards of Chinese tourists on West Lake. One group succeeded on this second day to complete the journey with no wrong turns; whilst the others appeared to get lost at a number of points along the way. The singing, filming, costume changes and search for a sun tan might have played a part!

All in all, it was a superb weekend and the students were brilliant as usual. They will now hopefully all complete their Bronze Awards before the end of the term.
