Led by professional PE teachers and coaches, the first term at Wellington College International Shanghai saw a large number of sporting successes and some great performances from a number of pupils.

It was fantastic to see so many making their Wellington debuts in various sports including basketball, football, cross country, rugby, netball and swimming!

Led by our two ex-professional players, Carlton Palmer and Wayne Butfroy, Wellington’s football teams made tremendous debuts in the Shanghai community. The U14 team won the Big 12 league champion’s title, the U9 and U15 teams both won the Tri-series Football at Dulwich, and the U15 team won the Shanghai Schools Sports Association League champion’s title.

The cross-country events showcased a number of amazing athletes and runners in both the Junior and Senior School, winning several runs during the past season. Led by Alex Miladinovski, a former Olympic swimmer, Wellington swim squad showed lots of dedication with early training twice a week and showed great progress, ranking second at their swim meet at YK Pao.

In the new year, a scuba diving trip in January and a ski trip in February prove that Wellingtonians are more than just multi-talented, but adventurous and courageous as well, and with such a great inaugural term behind them, the future of sport at Wellington Shanghai looks extremely bright.
