Spooky Spirits Celebrate Halloween at BIBA
Little Ghosts, Princesses, Heroes and Villains came to school at Beijing International Bilingual Academy (BIBA) on 28 October for the annual Halloween celebrations. Although in advance of the official Halloween holiday on 31 October,, the children still had great fun and made some wonderful memories as they celebrated this spookiest of holidays.
The Early Childhood Center (ECC) hosted a building-wide party with games, activities and wonderful treats to share provided by the parents. Students went from room to room playing games, doing other fun activities, and collecting treats along the way. The ECC teachers decorated room doors, hallways and the entry areas to ensure everyone was in a festive mood.
From ECC through Elementary, the students dressed as their favourite characters. While ECC students had a party throughout their entire building, each Elementary class celebrated in their own classroom with treats, activities and even some fun classic Halloween movies such as Charlie Brown. In some classrooms, students also carved pumpkins, and made classroom drawings and decorations.
BIBA prides itself in bringing together Western culture along with Chinese tradition into the educational environment. Many students wrote thrilling stories and scary tales as part of their holiday celebration. Everyone enjoyed the festivities, including parents and teachers. BIBA Grade 2 teachers collaborated on wearing animal costumes.
Not to be outdone, BIBA Middle School and High School students wore their costumes on Monday for the traditional Halloween day celebration. In addition to dressing up, students could choose between watching a movie and dancing, with the student-led band "Leopard’s Bedlam" playing a song set followed by an awesome playlist at the dance. Notably, the party was planned and put on by the Middle School/ High School Student Council.
