The 100th Day of School is an important hallmark for elementary school students. Not only does it mean over half the school year is over, but it also means it is time for a celebration! Children’s natural love of large numbers and penchant for patterning is the inspiration for the 100th day of school.

The numbers 1 to 100 are rich with teaching and learning possibilities: Do 100 jumping jacks; Building something with 100 cups, Building a zoo of 100 animals with artistic flair or drawing what you think you will look like when you are 100 years old!

By exploring these numbers and how they relate to each other in position and size, children have opportunities to deepen their understanding of numbers. This was the goal for each of the activities SCIS used to commemorate the 100th day of school.
