SCIS Pudong Celebrates Amazing Student Achievement

May, 2015

Shanghai Community International School (SCIS) Pudong is excited to celebrate an amazing accomplishment by one of its very own talented musicians, Fiona Huang. Huang, a 12th Grade flute player at SCIS, recently represented the school at the AMIS (Association for Music in International Schools) International Honor Band and Orchestra Festival in Singapore. She auditioned against over 200 flute players from international schools around the world and was awarded one of nine flute positions. She was even given a solo in one of the pieces of music!

The event took place from 18-22 March 2015 at Singapore American School, where 250 of the best high school musicians in the world gathered for several days of rehearsals with world renowned conductors James Tapia and Jeffrey Grogan. The event culminated in a wonderful gala concert featuring the Honor Band, Honor Orchestra, and the first ever AMIS International Honor Symphony.  Reflecting on the experience, Huang stated, “It was such an extraordinary experience meeting other students who have passion in music. Although the concert was amazing, I think the rehearsals were the best of all. They were really inspirational!” Congratulations to Fio
