scis-dance-1sShanghai Community International School (SCIS) continued its dedication to the Fine Arts program with the introduction of a Dance class at their Hongqiao Campus at the beginning of the 2009-10 school year. With a Dance class already running exceptionally well on their Pudong Campus, SCIS was keen to see Hongqiao students share in the benefits of this vibrant program.
The fast development in dancing and performance ability of the students in the Dance class and the Dance club, called Dancin’ Dragons, under the instruction of the Upper School Dance Teacher, Mr. Ariel Reyes, has been extraordinary. They have already performed in a number of events during the school year.
Mr. Reyes highlighted a few of these achievements: “Dancin’ Dragons delighted the crowd during the ACE Arts and Charity Extravaganza at Interkom on January 30, 2010. This fund raising event was composed of various artists from different international schools in Shanghai and the Dancin’ Dragons proved their skills and talents to be in a different league.” Mr. Reyes expressed how proud he was of his students, saying, “The HS Dance class won first prize at their first entry in the ACAMIS Chinese Talent Show last February 5. The group performed with finesse and grace to the music of ‘Flying Dragon’. The Dancin’ Dragons also provided entertainment at the SCIS PAFA’s (Parents and Friends Association) bingo night before the Chinese New Year. This year is truly a very productive and impressive start for the SCIS HQ dance class and club. It was long, hard work for the dance artists but it has left a great feeling of success and fulfillment.”
The SCIS Dancin’ Dragons are soon to be performing in the SCIS High School Musical and in the SCIS Dance Concert, and are sure to be seen in many more events in the future. The students’ enthusiasm and natural skill make them fantastic to watch and they have become yet another true reflection of the SCIS school spirit.
