ykps-science-week-sThe last week of May was Science Week at YK Pao School. The goal of science week, in the words of organizer Mr. Kent Bullifin, was to show students that science was fun.

The week saw a huge variety of activities, including experiments with magnets, and using microscopes to explore hidden worlds under the lens. “It looks like there are rivers and mountains in there!” exclaimed Flynn from Year 2, looking at the slide of a dog’s tongue under a microscope. Shanghai Zoo, accompanied by a selection of reptiles, came to talk about animals and their connection to the environment. Parents who used science in their jobs were invited to share their knowledge and passion for science with the children. Mr. Tian, a parent of a Year 3 student, brought along some of the remote-controlled aircraft that his company had designed. After explaining the principles behind the machines, Mr. Tian put the model planes through their paces in the playground, to the amazement of the audience.
