sas-apush_group01Shanghai American School (SAS) has a strong tradition of excellence in Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and this is evident in not just the growing number of students engaged in AP coursework, but in the number of students who receive awards for academic distinction within the AP Program. For the 2012-13 school year more than 700 students sat for 1,564 AP exams, and again achieved impressive results: 79 AP Scholars (students who received scores of three or higher on three or more AP exams); 58 AP Scholars With Honor (students who received an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on four or more of these exams); and 180 AP Scholars With Distinction (students who received an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on five or more of these exams); as well as 25 AP International Diplomas (students who received scores of three or higher on five or more AP Exams in three or more subject areas).

The numbers are a demonstration of the academic mastery students attain on college level subject matter. From another perspective, these scores demonstrate the excellent instruction that AP teachers are delivering in their classroom on a wide level of subjects.

Holistically speaking, what you see in these awards is a commitment to teaching; many of these students spent their entire high school careers with teachers preparing for this work. Ultimately, these students and their strong results are a product of their own hard work, intelligence, and the united care and instruction their teachers delivered.

SAS congratulates these students on their success at demonstrating excellent scholarship and dedication to their academic lives at school.
