On March 26, 2012, Rainbow Bridge International School (RBIS) has received official notification from the International Baccalaureate (IB) that
our school is now recognized as an IB World School. RBIS is authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) to preschool to Grade Six students effective immediately.

Becoming an authorized IB PYP school indicates that RBIS has established a high standard of education that supports the development of the whole child through an inquiry based approach to teaching and learning. It reinforces that children at RBIS acquire the skills and attitudes necessary to become life-long learners and responsible global citizens who are prepared to address the challenges of our changing world.

“The IB PYP will support not only our commitment to preparing students for success, but also our commitment to multicultural education,” said RBIS Principal, Rebecca Zipprich. “The IB impels us to offer a more global, interdisciplinary curriculum providing our students with critical thinking skills that will set them apart from their peers.”

RBIS’s authorization as an IB World School also supports students‘ transitions to different places around the globe by allowing parents to choose an IB PYP school in a new country. Parents can expect that all IB PYP schools will have a shared philosophy of education and programs that are aligned to IB standards and practices.

RBIS teachers, PYP Coordinators, and the Principal are always happy to share their knowledge of the IB Primary Years Programme. You can also visit

Since 1997, Rainbow Bridge International School has offered an intimate, nurturing learning environment ideally located amongst the greenery of Shanghai Zoo. RBIS first opened with just two classes serving eighteen preschool students, during the next eleven years the student population increased and the physical facilities expanded. Currently RBIS has eighteen preschool classes, five kindergarten classes, and seven elementary classes. RBIS’s diverse student body of over 350 students comes from thirty-one countries. To learn more about Rainbow Bridge International School, please visit
