3e readAuthor Tania McCartney paid a visit to 3e International on January 14 and read her new picture book Riley and the Sleeping Dragon to 3e students.

The book was released on November 2008 in Beijing. It features the author’s black and white photographs of Beijing along with gorgeous illustrations of Riley and the dragon by Canadian illustrator Mohamed Qovaizi. This book tells the tale of Riley, a little adventurer, who jumps in his plane in search of curious places. In this book, Riley goes in search of the Sleeping Dragon of China.

The Grade 1 and Kindergarten students at 3e decorated the library with “clouds and airplanes” made of white paper chains and red folded paper to recreate scenes from the story. Students also created a colorful banner to welcome Tania to the special reading day at 3e, which she took home with her at the end of the day.

On the morning of Tania’s visit, each class was brought up to the library to listen to the friendly author introduce the book’s main character Riley, and talk about how he was inspired by her own son, who is about the same age as many of 3e’s young students. Students answered questions about the famous sites they have seen around Beijing before Tania jumped into the story. After the reading, Tania signed copies of her new book in the lobby for a long line of parents and staff.
