concordia-new-facilityOver the summer of 2015, Concordia International School Shanghai underwent some exciting campus improvements, adding new learning and administrative spaces designed to better serve students and the community.

Concordia has lined its Phoenix Center – the central hub of its 10-acre campus – with distinct, purpose-built classrooms. Remodeled drama and art rooms, a culinary lab and newly constructed maker spaces for design and engineering projects will allow Concordia to expand opportunities in fine arts, world language and STEM-related courses.

Outdoor learning spaces were also revamped with the installation of a lighted, FIFA-certified turf sports field and running track. To preserve the natural tranquility of the campus, Concordia has also expanded the tree-lined lawn in its Founder’s Garden, providing an open natural grass area for students and families to enjoy during school and on weekends.

Providing effective service to current and perspective families was the intent behind the creation of Concordia’s Business Hub, which streamlines financial and day-to-day operations at the school. And visiting families get a unique view of the Concordia community in the new Welcome Center.

“Concordia’s recent upgrades in its facilities reflect a renewed attitude about who we are and where we are going,” says Concordia Operations Director Michele Ouimet, who oversaw design and implementation of the reconstruction project.

The new facilities align with Concordia’s mission of providing students a holistic educational experience and mark the first of many improvements to come. “We are busy getting ready for a second phase of construction,” says Ouimet, “one that will see a new and exciting Learning Commons, set and ready to better serve the collaborative needs of our students.”
