nais-pudong-app-summit_1392Year 6 students at Nord Anglia International School (NAIS), Pudong held a summit to showcase fully functional prototypes of their apps on their iPads. Their thoughtful designs included apps to assist with finding resources at school, to alleviate boredom with art, to deal with your problematic cat, and many more.

The students began thinking about what problem they could solve using an app last August and they worked collaboratively during weekly computing lessons to develop the skills necessary to plan their app, manage the project, research the market and design their app’s interface. The children had the choice from two app builders: the Justinmind program on the computer or Mobincube online.

On the day of the summit, the Year 6 parents were invited to test out the apps. To add a little competition to the occasion, parents were also given tokens and asked to vote for the apps according to four categories: Relevance, Usability, Thinking Skills and Engagement.

The event was a great success, with the children having an opportunity to share the apps that they had worked so hard to develop and showcase their knowledge of app development.
