Dulwich College Shanghai Students in Year 5 to Year 9 (ages 9 to 13) again performed impressively in their recent CTY SCAT Tests.

Since 1985, the Center for Talented Youth has identified talented students in elementary grades using the School and College Ability Test (SCAT). In May 1996, CTY computerized the SCAT and made the test available at computer test centers. There are three different versions of the SCAT – elementary, intermediate and advanced.

Students in grades 2-3 take the Elementary SCAT designed for 3-6 graders.
Students in grades 4-5 take the Intermediate SCAT designed for 6-9 graders.
Students in grades 6 and above take the Advanced SCAT designed for 9-12 graders. Due to this being an above-grade-level test, after the test, parents receive information that shows how their child’s score compares to that of students in his or her grade as well as students in the higher grades for whom the test questions were originally designed.

The tests are particularly demanding – the pass rate on the verbal section internationally being at around or below 40%. The Dulwich College Shanghai cohort of 33 students achieved a 75% pass rate, which is truly outstanding. On the Mathematics section where the school has historically performed strongly, ten students received a high honor award and will be invited to the regional award ceremony in Hong Kong on 18 May.
